Copal (Protium grandifolium) is the white resin that flows from the copal tree. The word originates from the Mexican-Indian usage: copalli are transparent resins. This name also stands for incense in the Aztec language.

Copal or copal is a collective term for tree resins of various botanical origins that are used as incense. It is a semi-fossil, natural resin which, in contrast to fresh resins, has a much greater hardness and thus a higher melting point. Copal has a refreshing effect, clarifies our mind with a fresh, clear aroma.
